4 Easy Tips to Root Into Spring
entry by: Mykayla Sorensen
Spring is in full swing these days. The emergence of longer days and warmer weather has created a tangible buzz. It can be felt in the air and expressed in our want to be out and about after hibernating for the winter.
Spring is a time of renewal and growth, and in Chinese Medicine, it is associated with the Wood element. To stay healthy during this season, it is important to focus on nourishing and supporting the Liver and Gallbladder, which are the organs associated with the Wood element. The Wood Element has an energy that naturally wants to move up and out - imagine the first green sprouts bursting their way through the soil. To have the strength and the ability to grow, we must remember to tend to our roots so we have a strong foundation to move forward from.
Here are some ideas to stay healthy in spring based on The Five Elements Theory according to Chinese Medicine:
1. Eat fresh, seasonal foods: In spring, it is important to eat foods that are fresh and in season, such as leafy greens, sprouts, and asparagus. These foods are rich in nutrients that support the Liver and Gallbladder in their physical and energetic properties.
2. Get plenty of exercise: Exercise is important to support the Wood element and to promote healthy circulation. This can include activities such as walking, yoga, or tai chi.
3. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep breathing, can help to reduce stress and support the Liver and Gallbladder systems. These practices also offer a space for us to slow down and have a slight retreat from the hustle and bustle of spring.
4. Get plenty of rest: Getting enough rest is essential for overall health and wellbeing. This is an area that can tend to be neglected as the days get longer and we just want to enjoy that extra bit of sunshine and social time. I'd still encourage you to aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night, taking the care and rest you deserve.
By following these tips, you can support your health and wellbeing during the spring season. Remember to listen to your body and make adjustments as needed to find the right balance for you to thrive.

Asparagus Salad
Ingredients
A bunch of Asparagus (white or green), a Cucumber, a couple good handfuls of Green Beans, 1 cup of Strawberries. Feel free to adjust by choosing the amounts of vegetables to your taste. For example if you love cucumber more, use more.
Toppings: Mint & Parsley, Hemp seeds, Pomegranate seeds,
Dress with sesame oil, olive oil or strawberry balsamic.
Steps
Honestly this is the most user friendly way to eating fresh seasonal vegetables. If you have a plate or one of those vegetable divider trays grab that.
1) Let everything soak in cool water to crisp them up.
2) Cut vegetables into halves and spears, slice strawberries. Take leaves of the herbs and rough chop or tear to release oils and scent, place seeds in small bowls, place bottles of oil or balsamic on the side.
3) Place the veg and fruit into the divider tray or line up on a long plate. Surround with herbs and toppings, either in small bowls or along the side of the plate.
4) Let everyone grab their own amounts of veg, fruit, toppings and dressing to custom their own mix to taste.
